This bonfire night we had the pleasure of holding our Ruby Tuesdays gig at Billy Bootleggers with some incredible performers! It was an amazing, magical night full of energetic live music, sparklers, and fun! Each and every performer had their own mind-blowing set for us to enjoy; from Faith Lou's emotional acoustic set, to Silk Rats dance-inducing set, It was such a joy to see all of these up and coming artists and to have the honour of speaking to them off stage!
Faith Lou started off the evening with her inspiring and emotional acoustic set; This was her debut gig as a singer-songwriter and she did an amazing job! Including original songs in her set list as well as well-known covers, the audience were captivated and started singing along (loudly) to the ones they knew! Not only did Faith sing one of my favourite songs, but she also played her unreleased song Patience, which I have been dying to hear since I first found out about it! We had a little chat after her performance about how it went and she was so happy with everything, although nervous to begin with, that all faded away when she got on stage and started playing for us! Faith's new single 'Rebound' comes out on November 8th, get it saved onto your playlists and enjoy!
Formal Warning debut performance was next and it was incredibly evocative and truly sensational. I had the opportunity to listen to their unreleased EP a short while ago and was so excited to finally hear them play live (i even knew all the lyrics to some of the songs)! Their performance was so intoxicating I've had 'Every Time' stuck in my head since they played it! Each of their songs was full of energy, and crashing beats, and gritty, raw lyrics that speak to you. After their performance, we met outside the venue for a chat and interview, joined by their drummer and bassist; they were so kind, funny and had some great answers to our questions! Their dynamic playing live was so brilliant, and their ability to connect with the audience was so good! Formal Warning's new single 'Every Time' will be hitting music streaming platforms on November 15th: this is one to play on repeat until their EP arrives!
Next in the evening's lineup was Dark Bloom, doing their first ever tour of the UK; starting in Nottingham and going to Birmingham (November 23rd), Manchester (November 24th), and Bristol (January 10th)! Having never heard their music until this evening, I was so amazed at how great their performance was put together and played. Bringing together similar sounds of Panic! At the Disco and other heavy alt-rock bands to bring sweet, soft verses that contrast with the pummelling wave of guitars, drums and loud, screaming vocals in the chorus; Dark Bloom have a unique energy that they bring to the stage with their music that is admirable. Off-stage, we spoke about their upcoming gigs, new music, and what inspired their dance moves.
Our final performance of the night was from Silk Rats; there was no better way to end the evening than with these guys, they had everything, from great dance moves, to their mix of gritty-grunge style with their alternative modern indie sound. Although they were last on stage, they didn't let them stop them from bringing even more heat to our event, pushing it WAY into overdrive! We had a lovely chat after their set too, talking about all sorts from their future plans, to new music plans and outfit inspirations.
I had such an incredible time at our Bonfire night gig; everyone performed phenomenally and were so nice to chat to after! Keep an eye on all their socials for more gigs/music. A massive thanks to Mia for her help, and to John Berry for photographing the event too! Check out our video for this gig below...
